5 Natural Stone Trends for 2018

In 2017 we saw a lot of growth in the natural stone industry. Whether it was full bed stone veneer, thinstone, pavers, flagging, steps, or something else, it’s been a good year for natural stone. As we look ahead, we wanted to share our five natural stone trend predictions with our fans and customers.

5 Natural Stone Trends

  1. Blending Stones: When I use the word “blends”, most people think of colors. And they’re right. We have seen the trend in blends continue to grow throughout 2017 and we expect to see it grow even more in 2018. It’s the blends of colors but also we’re seeing people blend patterns. This started to pick up towards the end of 2017 and I think we will see more of it in 2018.
  2. More Modern: I have had conversations with several Delgado Stone Authorized dealers who have said the “modern” trend is growing. Straight lines, light, dark, or a combination of the colors. One customer said modern was never accepted in his area and now the architects have started accepting it. For us, modern means ledgestone and we have already seen the growth in this.
  3. Buyer Knowledge: The consumer has access to more resources than ever before and that means they are becoming more knowledgeable. Knowledge is power and allows the customer to make a more informed decision. We hear that “brand loyalty” doesn’t exist anymore. I think we’re going to see that change starting next year and moving forward.
  4. Small Projects = Big Difference: It doesn’t take much to make a big difference in your home or commercial property. A small project can add value to a property or provide a much needed update. Indoor or outdoor fireplaces, columns, walkways, and patios are all small projects that make a big difference. If you want to shoot for something bigger, and outdoor kitchen has been a popular choice.
  5. Landscaping: This is happening already but 2018 will be even bigger than years past. Flagging, natural stone steps, walls, and wall caps. We’re seeing more request for stone to be used as a landscaping products, functional and decorative, than ever before. Expect this trend to continue in 2018 and beyond.

I could have added more to this list but decided to limit it to five I feel confident about. What natural stone trends are you expecting to see? Leave a comment!
