Built New. Made Timeless with Natural Stone.

How do you make a brand-new home feel warm, timeless, and full of character? For homeowners Jen and Brian, it started with a fireplace and finding the right stone to make it a true focal point.

With its size and prominent position in the home, they knew the materials they chose for the interior fireplace would have a major impact on the feel of the entire space.

We wanted something that would make a statement, but still feel natural and complement the rest of the finishes throughout the house," Jen explained.

They were also looking for the "right" stone for six months before stumbling into Sterling Tan on a road trip (when they were almost too tired to stop!)

So, how did they know when they found The One?

"It had exactly the tones and natural variations we were looking for. We loved the mix of warm neutrals, subtle grays, and variation from piece to piece. It gave us the texture and character we wanted, without feeling too uniform or manufactured," Jen said.

Brian also credits Delgado Stone's sales team (JP Acosta) for helping them understand the characteristics of different stone options and patterns, and making the selection process easier.

Sterling Tan is a quartzite from New England that combines medium tans and greys with touches of rust and clay colors and a medium textured surface. The Roughly Squares & Rectangles pattern creates a sleek, modern look and clean lines that highlight the color range (while the light-colored grout they chose blends it all seamlessly!)

Because this was a new construction project, there isn't a traditional before-and-after story. Instead, the construction photos show how the fireplace came together, and how the stone became the personality of the finished space.

Once complete, the fireplace did exactly what the homeowners hoped it would.

The fireplace really anchors the entire space," Jen said. "The stone adds so much warmth and dimension, and it has become one of our favorite features of the house.”

The outcome is a great example of how natural stone can bring character to a new home. Rather than trying to make a brand-new space look old, the right stone can give it a sense of warmth, texture, and permanence from the start.
