3 Landscape Design Enhancements to Make This Fall

We often spend the colder months dreaming about warm, sunny days and outdoor fun, but a recent Houzz article reminds us that fall is an ideal time to enhance various landscape design projects. With a break from the heat, and ideal temperatures to work and spend time outside, fall is a great time to envision future outdoor improvements. While still having time to enjoy them before winter sets in. Four of the eight outdoor upgrades Houzz suggested to take advantage of fall relate to natural stone, and we couldn't be more excited to share our examples!

Connecticut Blend Ashlar fireplace with wood storage

This Connecticut Blend Ashlar fireplace offers built-in organization for firewood.

Firewood Storage (#2)

The second project Houzz suggested, was to "fine-tune your firewood storage," which is a concept many contractors are incorporating into interior and exterior fireplace designs. In the photo above, Brennen Lorden Landscape Construction crafted this fireplace to be the focal point of the outdoor living space using Connecticut Blend Ashlar (supplied by Site One.) With built-in organization alongside the fireplace, it is convenient to plan by stocking firewood and make it easier to stay in the moment later, whether relaxing after a long day or spending time with family and friends.

Double-Duty "Furniture" and Fire Feature (#4 and #7)

The project in the photo above combines the best of two of Houzz's enhancement ideas: "add double-duty furniture," and "add a fire feature." While this fire feature made from Old New England Rounds isn't technically furniture, it is a seating wall, and it makes a stunning, multipurpose addition to the landscape. The team at Able Landscaping used natural stone (supplied by Stonewood Products) to create a warm, cozy atmosphere perfect for enjoying Cape Cod views and good company.

Walkway (#5)

Walkways connect different areas of the property and also improve the aesthetic. When Houzz mentioned "install a walkway or two," this project came up as a great example (above) of how it can enhance the overall atmosphere. This walkway by Blue Ridge Landscaping showcases both their talented team and the beauty of Liberty Hill Flagstone (supplied by New Hampshire Thinstone). There are several ways to incorporate flagstone into walkway designs, and this installation adds something special to the landscape design.

While landscape design and outdoor living projects are exciting as the warmer months approach, the time between seasons can work to your advantage when planning and making the best use of space. Getting started on these projects in the fall, and staying ahead of the springtime rush offers peace of mind--and more importantly, additional time to enjoy the results of your new investment.
