Featured Teammate: JP, Director of National Sales

Meet the Director of National Sales, JP Acosta, who leads our sales team while providing product support and education for Authorized Dealers, contractors, architects, and homeowners throughout the industry. JP spends much of his time connecting with clients, coordinating with teammates, and traveling throughout the year to trade shows to network and participate in educational events. 

His role at Delgado Stone is his first introduction to the design and build industry, but his experience--working on Wall Street for 18 years--made him a natural fit for his sales role. It all began with a casual conversation with his longtime friend and CEO, Mike, in the early stages of developing the business. JP explains how starting from scratch, in every way, had a unique appeal to him. "The most enticing thing was to be involved in the early stages of a growing company, which is something I had not experienced before," he said.

For JP, the most interesting components of his role are learning from masons and contractors,  sharing and collaborating with the team, and applying the knowledge to future projects. "It's an opportunity to bring sales experience to help cultivate relationships and to grow, learn a business from all aspects, understand the material, see how the products are created, and to tie in marketing materials," he said.

When asked one thing he wishes more people knew about natural stone, JP answered, "...the sustainability, and how our product fits naturally into the 'going green' movement." He looks forward to opportunities to educate the design community about the benefits of green materials such as lower carbon emissions, and being able to reuse and reclaim materials. JP said his favorite Delgado Stone collection changes--but the most fascinating aspect is watching trends change from season to season. For example, he said: "Montauk Blend and New York Blend were ordered more than ever in the last 12 months."

The best part of JP's work, he said, is "watching people grow and when they embrace the company culture."  Being passionate about learning and education himself, he enjoys seeing a teammate discover their purpose and use it daily to create individual and company growth. He likes being part of a company that is trying to grow, even though people aren't used to that. "It’s about understanding the WHY of what we do; it's not about right or wrong. We learn what works for us, and how we can grow by trying new things and seeing what the outcome is." 

His enthusiasm and hard work are an important part of the company's growth and the team's success--and is certainly noticed and appreciated by his teammates. "JP and I have known each other for years and his experience, work ethic, and passion have helped fuel our growth,"  said CEO Mike Wolfe. "He's the type of person you want on your team, and I have enjoyed working with him on the leadership team". 

When he isn't working, JP said he most enjoys spending time with his wife and son and playing hockey and golf!
